The Anonymous Agent

A Skilled Buyer
An unusual talent
Bradley the Buyer can approach a supplier and score directly because he is so anonymous that people barely remember him. His professional skill depends on disappearing into the background.
Contact becomes appetite
The very ability that makes him an effective agent exposes him to a contact habit. His work increasingly resembles the addiction he is assigned to investigate.
A Body Reordered

The Agent Resembles a User
Signs of decline
The Buyer loses his ability to drink and perform sexually, his teeth fall out, and he constantly sucks on candy bars. His body increasingly advertises a need he denies.
An inner supply
He comes to believe his body produces its own Junk or equivalent. The professional who once managed other people’s habits now imagines himself complete and self-sufficient.
The Contact Request

A Need for Another Body
Seeking a recharge
A powerful craving finally sends the Buyer to a young user, whom he asks to come close so he can get fixed. He treats bodily proximity as a substitute for taking the drug directly.
A growing dependency
The encounter makes his habit increasingly difficult to disguise. His claim of independence collapses into an urgent dependence on another person.
The Department Rejects Him

A Professional Scandal
The warning
A district supervisor tells the Buyer that rumors about his conduct threaten the department’s standing. The institution focuses on appearances rather than the nature of the addiction.
Pleading submission
The Buyer crawls to the supervisor and begs to remain in the department. His former authority has become a desperate plea for continued access.
Assimilation and Destruction

Beyond the Human
The final appetite
The Buyer disappears people and eventually absorbs the District Supervisor, then the Narcotics Commissioner. His need has become a literal power to consume those around him.
Institutional disposal
Authorities destroy him with a flamethrower, ruling that he no longer belongs to a recognized species. The department eliminates its former agent only after he becomes impossible to manage.
